Are you a moving company or a broker?
We're a moving company, full stop. Rest Easy Moving is a fully licensed and insured local mover in Asheville, NC, with our own eight trucks and our own uniformed crews. We hold an NCUC household-goods certificate plus US DOT and MC authority on file. We don't pass your job to an outside carrier or run a matching service; our people load it and drive it.
What will a local move around Asheville run?
Local jobs run hourly: $139 for two movers and a truck, or $195 if you want a faster three-mover crew. Blankets, dollies, and basic tools are already in that rate. For a sense of the whole bill, our flat-rate bands land around $400 to $580 for a studio, $610 to $910 for a one-bedroom, $1,030 to $1,540 for a two-bedroom, $1,740 to $2,560 for a three-bedroom, and $2,480 to $3,680 for a four-bedroom house.
Do I have to put money down to reserve a date?
Yes, a $150 deposit locks your day on the calendar. It isn't an extra fee; the full amount comes straight off your final total. Until that deposit is in, your slot stays open to whoever books it first, which matters most around October leaf-season and the end-of-month rush.
Will I get the price in writing before move day?
Always. North Carolina law requires a written estimate before a household move, and we'd write one anyway. Our estimator walks the home or reviews your inventory, factors in the driveway grade and stairs, and sends a written rate you approve in advance. Nothing gets invented at the curb.
What license do you actually hold in North Carolina?
Movers of household goods inside North Carolina are regulated by the North Carolina Utilities Commission, and we carry an NCUC household-goods certificate for intrastate work. For moves that cross a state line, we operate under our own US DOT and MC numbers. Both are current and on file.
How is my stuff covered if something breaks?
Every shipment carries up to $1,000,000 in cargo coverage. The standard protection that comes with the move is released value at sixty cents per pound, and if you want fuller protection we can set up full-value coverage instead. We'll walk you through which one fits before you sign.
Can your crew move a piano or other heavy specialty items?
We do, regularly. Uprights, baby grands, gun safes, slate pool tables, and oversized armoires get the right straps, ramps, and number of hands to come down a Grove Park staircase clean. Specialty pieces start at $365 on top of the move, and we'll flag anything tricky when we estimate.
Which towns and neighborhoods do you serve?
All of greater Asheville and the mountain towns around it: Hendersonville, Black Mountain, Weaverville, Arden, Fletcher, Candler, Fairview, Swannanoa, Leicester, Mills River, Woodfin, Biltmore Forest, Montreat, and Brevard. Inside the city we cover everything from West Asheville and Montford to Biltmore Village, Haw Creek, and the River Arts District.
If I'm moving out of state, is it the same people the whole trip?
Yes. The crew that loads your house in Asheville is the crew that unloads it in Charlotte, Greenville, Knoxville, or wherever you're headed. We don't transfer your shipment to a line haul partner. Out-of-state runs get a binding written quote starting at $2,360.
Can you pack the house too, or just carry it?
Either way. Our packers can box a whole home in sturdy materials, label each carton by room, and unpack on the far end so you're not staring down a wall of cardboard. If you'd rather pack yourself and just need the loading muscle, that's fine too, billed by the hour with no equipment minimum.
What if my new place isn't ready when I move out?
It happens, especially when a closing date slides. We'll hold your goods in clean storage and redeliver the day the keys are actually in your hand. Just let us know the gap looks likely when we book, so we can plan the trucks and the space.
What's your cancellation policy?
Life shifts, and we get it. Give us reasonable notice and we'll reschedule with no fuss. The $150 deposit holds your date, so if you cancel last minute or no-show, that portion may not come back; reschedule a few days out and it follows you to the new date.
Our downtown building asks for a certificate of insurance before move day — can you handle that?
Yes, and we do it often for Biltmore Village condos, downtown high-rises near Pack Square, and managed buildings with a loading-dock window. Tell us the property manager's requirements when you book and our office emails the COI before the truck ever leaves the yard.
Do I need to be there on move day?
Someone with authority to point out what goes and answer a quick question should be on site at both ends, or reachable by phone. You don't have to lift anything; that's our job. If you can't be there, we can usually arrange to coordinate with a trusted stand-in you name in advance.
