Montreat Movers

An Asheville crew covering Montreat and the rest of Western NC.

Moving in Montreat, NC

Montreat is the small mountain town tucked into a cove just north of Black Mountain, about 20 minutes east of Asheville off I-40 and up through the Black Mountain gateway. Built around the Montreat Conference Center and Montreat College, it climbs steeply into the surrounding peaks — narrow stone-gated roads, the Assembly Inn area, and homes set high on the cove walls give it a tight, vertical character unlike anywhere else nearby. We run the cove road up from Black Mountain regularly, so the steep, narrow approaches and the limited turnarounds are well known to our crew.

How we work Montreat

Much of the work here ties to the college and conference center, with staff and seasonal moves, alongside families in the cove’s residential streets. Rest Easy handles every piece directly — our own trucks, our own uniformed W-2 movers, no contractors. Wesley founded the company in 2015 as a Buncombe County native, and the crew that handles a steep Black Mountain drive is just as ready for Montreat’s tighter cove roads.

Two movers and a truck are $139/hr with pads, dollies, and tools included, and a third mover is $195/hr for longer carries from the road. A 1-bedroom usually lands in the $610–$910 band and a 2-bedroom $1,030–$1,540. We give the written estimate before the job per North Carolina law, and a $150 deposit secures the date and applies to the total. Our NCUC certificate and US DOT/MC authority stay current for interstate moves.

Montreat’s steep, narrow cove roads and limited parking make the right truck size and an experienced driver essential, since bigger is not always better up here, so we often plan a smaller truck or a shuttle before move day. Tell us the inventory and the access and we will set a careful plan and a firm price.

Montreat Reviews

★★★★★

“Small one-bedroom right off Haywood Road in West Asheville, done before noon. Two guys showed up on time, friendly, no standing around or stretching the clock. The quote and the final bill matched to the dollar. Would book again in a heartbeat.”

“My building in Biltmore Village required a certificate of insurance on file and only lets you use the freight elevator in a two-hour window. Rest Easy emailed the COI to my property manager the same day I asked, then planned the load around the elevator slot so we never blew the reservation. The two movers were polite, hustled, and still managed not to scrape a single wall. Billing was the flat 2-bedroom band they quoted, no mystery fees at the end.”

“Good move overall. The crew got stuck about twenty minutes in traffic coming back up I-26 from the dump run, so the unload started later than planned, but the lead called ahead to warn me instead of just showing up late. Furniture arrived clean and they reassembled the bed frames without being asked. Fair on price.”

FAQ

Montreat's roads are steep and narrow — can a moving truck even reach the house?
Often a full-size truck can't, so we plan around it. After scouting the cove approach we may bring a smaller truck or run a shuttle from a wider spot, so your move gets done without a vehicle stuck on a tight switchback.
We work at the conference center or college — can you handle a seasonal move?
Yes, that is common work for us up here. We are used to the campus and conference-center schedule and the cove streets, and we will set a window that fits around the season's comings and goings.
Is Montreat treated as a separate trip from Black Mountain?
No. Montreat sits just up the cove from Black Mountain, and both are in our service area. The rate and deposit are the same; the cove just calls for more careful access planning, which we handle before the day.
